WEBINAR | Homeworking: What Do I Need To Think About? | Legal Q&A: Ask Us Anything | April, 17

17 April 2020

Alice Stephenson is joined by Bellevue Law founder Florence Brocklesby and data protection expert, Michelle Correia to answer more of your COVID-19 related questions.

During part one the panel discussed the things you need to do when it comes to homeworking, from your duties as an employer and your obligations as a data controller. We’ve prepared a checklist based on these discussions that can be downloaded here.

Part two consisted of our usual open Q&A where the panel answered the following questions:

In the situation where you furloughed people on 24 March, how does that work with the payroll for the remainder of that month? 39:44

For an employee who earns 60k, is it correct that they will get their full salary to 23 March and then a pro-rated furlough amount from 24-31 March? 42:24

We are now looking at redundancy following furlough for a whole department of the business, do people need to come off furlough first before we start the consultations? Or could we do redundancy consultation during the last week or two of furlough, with moving to make people redundant from the first day they are off furlough (e.g. 1 June under current guidelines). 44:39

If we do a consultation of over 20 people now and need a longer consultation, would HMRC not see them being on furlough as ‘fake’ later when they come to audit? 48:11

We’ve received a DSAR request from a customer and while we have their personal data at our office, we can’t access it at this time. As a result we will miss the deadline. What would you advise us to do? 51:40

What is the overall summary from the guidance that has recently been updated regarding furlough? 57:35
