Meet the flockers: Matt Morrison
26 June 2020
In our latest instalment of ‘Meet the flockers’ we talk music, superheroes and hypercolour t-shirts with our Data Protection Adviser, Matt Morrison.
If you could write a book about your life, what would the title be and why?
I always remember my school reports used to say things like, “Matthew has lots of potential”, which felt like a not very coded way of saying I needed to try harder! I used to get bored very easily at school (and still do), I couldn’t pretend that I was interested in things that I wasn’t good at or didn’t excite me. Happy to say that I apply myself a lot better these days especially as I work in an area that genuinely interests me and is very important given the speed of change in the world. So, I think I’d have to go with “Lots of Potential” as the title for my book.
Who is your hero?
Slightly schmaltzy, but over the past few months it’s probably my daughter. She’s five so hasn’t been at school, hasn’t seen her friends and has had to put up with me being at home every day! But she’s always so positive and full of energy (too much sometimes) and has coped amazingly with a massive change to her life. I’ve been trying to harvest some of her positivity even when life has been very strange.
What energizes you outside of work?
Music mostly. I’m in a band (we’re currently dormant for obvious reasons) and have been doing various music things since I was about 17. But practising and playing live is always a great outlet and good for shutting off from other stuff going on in life and in the world. And if I’m not doing that I’m listening to music – I’m currently listening to the new Run The Jewels album on repeat, can highly recommend it. Oh, and the Frozen 2 soundtrack (not my choice that one) but Show Yourself is great!
What trend do you hope makes a comeback?
Hypercolour t-shirts. They were the most exciting things in the world when I was a kid – they were pretty magical when you think about it. Would love to see a relaunch, I’d be at the front of the queue! It’d be that or the “curtains” haircut, another staple of my younger years. Given my current lockdown hair situation, I’m very much hoping it’s back in fashion soon!
