Meet the flockers: Heather Stritch
12 March 2021
Our Meet The Flockers series gives us a chance to show the humans behind Stephenson Law. We stop, take a moment, and spend some time on the sillier side of life.
From favourite films, to superpowers we wish we had, this series sheds a light on what makes our flock tick.
What’s the scariest thing you’ve ever done, and why did you do it?
I’ll be honest and say I don’t think I’ve done a lot of scary things in life: I’m adventurous, but risk-averse. But I have a real thing for independence, which pushed me to move to Bristol on my own and try figure out life here. Most recently, pre-covid times, I went to South Korea and travelled about on my own for a few days, mainly to put myself out of my comfort zone. It’s lame, but conquering the subway there despite not speaking Korean gave me a rush I think I still ride now. It’s the little things!
Do you hit the snooze button or wake up immediately?
Snooze button all the way. I’m a complete night owl. The clock hits midnight and all of a sudden my brain comes alive. It was great in University, when time was basically a construct, but in work it means I… might… have… five alarms set every morning. Be grateful you don’t share a room with me!
What’s the weirdest thing you do when you’re alone?
A new thing has popped up in lockdown, where I talk to myself, especially when working. I’ll catch myself getting a bit of brain fog mid day, and start asking myself, “Right! What’s next? What are we doing?” It may also come with a spot of dancing, spurned by the midday techno. Whatever works.
What was the first thing you wanted to be when you grew up?
Esmeralda from the Hunchback of Notre Dame. I had the dolls, the cassette, and the head to toe outfit. There’s a whole collection of photos from when I was 5 and thought growing up to be an animated character was a reasonable desire.
Who do you most admire?
It’s cheesy, and I should be picking someone like Amal Clooney, but, my sister. As a kid I thought she was the most badass, intelligent, and talented person I knew… and when I grew up that didn’t really subside. She’s cool, she’s funny, she’s got brains to burn… she’s the bizz.
