Meet the flockers: Effie Dower
24 March 2021
Our Meet The Flockers series gives us a chance to show the humans behind Stephenson Law. We stop, take a moment, and spend some time on the sillier side of life.
From favourite films, to superpowers we wish we had, this series sheds a light on what makes our flock tick.
If you could live anywhere in the world, where would it be?
I’m a real “seasons” person so I would live in Woodstock, VT. In particular I would live at the Woodstock Inn – it’s my dream destination. In 2013 I went on the most amazing Autumnal trip to New England with my husband, and on the 1stNovember we landed at the Woodstock Inn at midnight. It had just started to snow and we were welcomed in with a hot chocolate in front of their roaring fire. It was so magical. The colours there in Autumn were amazing – it was like something from the movies. I’ve not managed to make it back there for Christmas – but that’s on the bucket list (see later!) and there are ski slopes nearby, so I think it would be so fun. Also they have gorgeous weather in the summer and it’s not too far from the New England Coast. I mean, dream life
A genie gives you three wishes – what are they?
- Remove all traces of Covid in the world so that life can resume!
- I would ask for a door that, when you open it, allows you to go anywhere in the world. So I would be able to just pop through and see my best friends who are in the States or my cousin in Australia. That would be the best!
- A product that could guarantee your children sleep through the night and only wake up at a sensible time! I would be the saviour of parents all over the world!
- (This is an unofficial wish, but if I wasn’t allowed one of the wishes above, I’d ask to hang out with Chris Hemsworth for the day…)
What’s on your bucket list?
I feel really lucky that I’ve done some amazing things and been to some amazing places.
Still on the list is Japan – I’ve never been and would love to go.
Scuba diving in the Red Sea would also be up there.
Spending a snowy Christmas somewhere with my family would be magical.
I’m a big Strictly fan and think I’d be good at a Jive – so learning to jive!
Island hopping in the Cyclades…
Building a house in Chios (the island that my family come from) so I can invite friends and family for some amazing summers!
What’s your favourite story about yourself?
I went travelling in South East asia with a friend from uni. We were on an island in Indonesia called Sulawesi, and it’s big on it’s funeral rights. So we were invited to a funeral. They last a week, and they sacrifice bulls, and you need to turn up with a 100 cigarettest and 2kg of sugar to give to the family. I’ve never seen anything like it.
But, people kept coming up to me, and taking selfies with me. I was so confused, it literally lasted for the whole day! Turns out, apparently I look like an Indonesian pop star, and everyone had though I had come to the funeral to sing!
What are you most proud of in the last year?
Apart from getting my job at SL? I think it has to be the launch of the new Sleep Thief collection – we managed to navigate our way through factory closures and Covid to release a new and improved collection of babygrows and the launch went unbelievably well!
