Where is Your Data Going? And Why Does it Matter?

4 April 2022

In the digital age, data is queen and forms the basis of countless projects that intend to propel businesses forward. However, GDPR, EU-US transfers, and the looming demise of third-party cookies have threatened the collection of data as we know it.

Now that several European regulators have indicated they do not consider Google Analytics compatible with EU data protection laws, many are at a loss as to what to do next. And where do all these recent cases leave the UK (given it’s no longer part of the EU?)

What’s clear, however, is that the way we collect and use data is about to undergo a seismic shift, leaving many to ask: Why is this happening? How does this impact the data I collect? And how I can protect my businesses against the tide of data protection obligations due to unfold?

In this webinar, we joined forces with US law firm Jayaram Law to offer expert insights on the changes we can expect to see in the world of data protection. Featuring insights from speakers on both sides of the pond we tackled the most pressing issues facing data collection today, and how to protect your business in this brave new world.

The talk featured insights from Jayaram Law’s Heidi Yernberg, alongside insights from Stephenson Law’s Head of Tech & Data Protection Alison Berryman, Senior Solicitor Jessica Vautier, and Knowledge lawyer Emily Barwell. The webinar began with a breakdown of key terms and foundations relating to data protection, opening up to a discussion on the UK and US implications of these new changes.
