2019 – Another Busy Year!

2019 has been a pretty busy year at SLHQ. Here’s a snapshot of what it had in store for us:

January – our team of 4 left the Natwest accelerator programme and moved into Desklodge where we had to fend for ourselves.

February – I met Michelle, realised we are on the same wavelength when it comes to building an alternative law firm and persuaded her to join forces with me.

March – not much happened really – I was featured in the SW Business Leader magazine as an entrepreneur to watch and we probably ate some cake.

April – after what felt like a very long wait, Michelle joined the flock as a director and I could finally take a holiday.

May – our first male recruit Ed joined the flock. For a short period we restrained ourselves from too much girly chat. We celebrated GDPR’s birthday with cake.

June – Hannah joined the team and we excitedly moved into our own office. We went a bit bonkers buying plants.

July – SL turned 2 and we celebrated with cake. I was named a Top 10 Legal Advisor by Enterprise Nation.

August – Nadia joined our flock and it was game-on for the inaugural SLHQ Sports Day (my team won, just saying). Laura had her 1 year work anniversary and we bought her a balloon.

September – Michelle and I put our glad-rags on for the Business Leader awards where we were shortlisted for Startup of the Year. Whilst we didn’t win, it was still an acknowledgement that we’re doing alright. Charlie started as our first full-time marketing manager and Ed was listed as a Legal 500 Rising Star.

October – the last recruit of the year, Yuliya, joined as our new trainee. We had a team outing to the Lion King and discovered M&S’s delicious flamingo sweets.

November – we hosted our first ever client quiz and realised how little we know about flamingos and most other things. Becky, our longest-standing employee, had her 2 year work anniversary and is getting much closer to passing her probation period.

December – our busiest month ever. We managed to squeeze in some team bowling and flamingo biscuits. And now we’re off to eat cake.

We’ve got big plans for 2020, including an expanding team and a new office. I feel very fortunate to be surrounded by such incredible people and can’t wait to see what 2020 has in store for us.
